Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus Christ:
Jesus (4 BC – AD 30 / 33) also referred
to as Jesus of Nazareth and Jesus
Christ, was a first-century Jewish preacher
and religious leader.
He is the central figure of Christianity, and
is widely described as the most
influential person in history. Most Christians
believe he is the incarnation of God
the Son and the awaited Messiah (Christ)
prophesied in the Old Testament.
Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity
agree that Jesus existed historically.
Jesus was a Galilean Jew, who was
baptized by John the Baptist and began
his own ministry. He preached orally and
was often referred to as "rabbi".
Jesus debated with fellow Jews on
how to best follow God, engaged in
healings, taught in parables and
gathered followers. He was arrested
and tried by the Jewish authorities,
turned over to the Roman government,
and crucified on the order of Pontius
Pilate, the Roman prefect.
After his death, his followers believed
he rose from the dead, and the
community they formed eventually
became the early Church.
Jesus also figures in non-Christian
religions. In Islam, Jesus (Isa) is
considered one of God's important
prophets and the Messiah.
Authors note: Jesus was clearly what
in India they call a Bhakta - a devotee
of God. His practice was Divine Love,
which leads to extreme love for all
beings, from a sense of unity and oneness.
He confronted all hatred with love - a
clear sign of a Saint. The author does
like to visit holy churches and dwell on
the deep stillness in them...
There is much discussion about this,
and discrepancies, but it all comes to
people with no real spiritual experience
or depth can not really fathom his
teachings or life. They can argue
and drown in a pool of clear water -
and not see its meant for drinking!
The four canonical gospels
(Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)
are the foremost sources
for the life and message of Jesus.
